Idling reduction programs are in place across Canada, and the results speak for themselves:

  • Union Gas (Ontario) saw a 19% improvement in fuel efficiency after three months of its idle reduction initiative.
  • The Beer Store (Ontario) was able to increase their fuel efficiency by 14% and decrease idling by 51% in one year through their program.
  • Toronto Hydro had a 10% improvement in fuel efficiency and a 47% reduction in idling in just 5 months.
  • Molson Canadian estimates an average annual savings of $225,000 in reduced fuel costs as a result of their idling reduction program.
  • City of Richmond saved $117,000 in fuel costs during the first year of implementing an idle reduction driver training program.
  • The City of Armstrong has implemented a driver-training program, and is now idle-free.

Idling reduction is starting to gain momentum in BC. A number of organizations have started to implement great programs. For example North Vancouver, Whistler and West Vancouver currently have anti-idling bylaws in place.
