Natural Resources Canada’s Idle Free Zone

NRCan has taken the lead when it comes to idle reduction initiatives. They have supported a number of programs across Canada and have a wealth of resources, tools and contacts. They have developed the Idle Free Zone, a toolkit of ready to use graphic materials, guides, newsletters, and other tools to create your own campaign. They also have tools for fleets, including Idle Free Zones for commercial vehicles, incentives, case studies and other materials.

One Day Vancouver

The city of Vancouver has implemented a progressive idling campaign that involves fleet and public awareness/education. The One Day campaign is about taking small steps to make Vancouver the cleanest, greenest, healthiest city in the world.

Clean Air Partnership

The Greater Toronto Area has implemented a number of idle reduction measures over the past few years. Their website contains campaign material and reports.

City of Ottawa

Ottawa has implemented a comprehensive campaign that incorporates noise bylaws designed to limit idling as well as an education and outreach campaign. They have developed an excellent school anti idling kit.   The kit contains a vast array of resources that are designed to help schools get started and see results.

Driver Wiser: A Guide to Fuel Efficient Driving

Nova Scotia’s guide to more fuel-efficient driving, this website has maintenance and driving tips and creative ideas on how to save fuel and greenhouse gas emissions. It also advertises incentives and contests for monthly prizes. Go to their website to check it out!

E3 Fleet

E3 Fleet is a program initiative of the Fraser Basin Council (FBC), a non-profit organization with a mandate of bringing people together to advance sustainability. E3 Fleet provides services and resources to assist trucking, utility, urban delivery, courier, government and other fleets that want to increase fuel efficiency, reduce emissions, and reduce costs.
